Lambda Piano Pedagogy Workshop Series

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Overview: This workshop aims to provide enrichment to studio teachers, professionals and music lovers interested in Piano Pedagogy. It will explore a range topics, including the choice of piano methods, healthy approaches to teaching basic keyboard technique and the psychology of teaching and learning.

This program is intended for:

Lambda School West Island Montreal Piano Pedagogy Workshops

         -  Advanced students who are interested in learning more about the art and science of piano teaching

         - Individuals planning to prepare for Piano Pedagogy certification

         - New teachers aiming to establish a private studio

         - Seasoned piano teachers who wish to uncover new perspectives from musical colleagues

Through interactive lectures, demonstrations and discussions, the participants can reflect upon and share their pedagogical perspectives.
Workshops will be conducted by Dr. Angela Chan and Dr. Alexandra Townsend (both RCM examiners) in collaboration with other guest lecturers, and prominent faculty members from the RCM College of Examiners.

This program is divided into 3 modules:

Examining the inner workings of the piano with seasoned piano tuner Francois Gagnon through studying its mechanisms, and how this relates to piano technique and aesthetics of interpretation as a performer and teacher with Dr. Angela Chan.

Dr. Song will discuss and demonstrate how musical sensitivity and expression can be achieved through a balance of purposeful listening and refined technical control.
